International Women's Health Coalition :: SxTech 2010

Who is International Women's Health Coalition?

"We are passionate and tenacious professionals who, together with our international Board of visionaries and leaders, work with hundreds of partners worldwide to secure every woman’s right to a just and healthy life. We are funded by private foundations, UN agencies, European governments, individuals and corporations. We do not accept funding from the U.S. government.

What We Do: We empower local leaders and help them build and sustain their organizations. We mobilize women and young people to act. We inform powerbrokers and we advocate for women’s rights and health in nations’ capitals and the UN.

Why We Do It: Millions of women and girls worldwide suffer and die unnecessarily due to discrimination, sexual
coercion, violence and lack of access to sexual and reproductive health services and information. These human rights violations and denial of essential health services are devastating to women, girls, men, communities and societies.

How We Do It: Globally, we analyze and communicate evidence, mobilize alliances and advise institutions and
governments. In nations’ capitals and the UN, we motivate policy makers to act and redirect foreign aid. Locally, we identify leaders and organizations and make grants to build capacity while forging professional partnerships.

Our Impact:
We leverage our work in two very different, but critically linked worlds — international policy and local capacity — to change thinking, redirect funding and motivate action by people and institutions
that can secure rights and health for women and girls. ..."
