Chicago serves up a rolling feast of healthy food to poor neighborhoods

I never cease to be amazed by Americans.  The former Obama administration operative & current head man in your Windy City, Rahm Emanuel, is championing buses that sell healthy food in what are called food desserts.  If I am not mistaken, a similar effort was tried in New York with a much smaller mode of transport-food carts- selling food in front of those dreadful corner "grocery" stores.  The healthy food cart owners were beset upon by unhappy store owners and dared not return.   Read about this healthy and clever development in an article from the Huffington Post.

The City of Chicago's public health plan reflects some of awareness of the need to work with a range of sectors to achieve public health goals. A colleague who works for the department emailed a copy of the plan to me.  It not innovative. There are pro-forma activities such as serving on council's, advisory boards, etc. to other department.  There is very little in the plan that points to direct engagement or integration with departments that impact health other than schools.
