The Boston Public Health Commission, under the leadership of Mayor Thomas M. Menino, and Executive Director, Dr. Barbara Ferrer has been working to not only identify health disparities, health equity and health inequities in Boston, but is working on social determinants of health, extending the dialogue and requiring health care organizations to be part of the solution.

Academy Health offers webinars that cover useful skills for those interested in getting more grounded in applied research topics.  They have archived webinar trainings/presentations so you can watch them at your leisure.  There is a membership fee for full access, but it is not unreasonable.

AcademyHealth represents a broad community of people with an interest in and passion for using health services research to improve health care. We promote interaction across the health research and policy arenas by bringing together a broad spectrum of players to share their perspectives, learn from each other, and strengthen their working relationships.Our staff provides member services and technical assistance to:

• Convene national scientific and health policy conferences;
• Help public and private policymakers transform research and policy into workable programs;
• Educate policymakers, researchers, government officials, and business leaders;
• Disseminate vital information through research syntheses, special reports and findings, newsletters, and our Web site;
• Manage major programs that serve the research community, health policy leaders, and business and government decision makers; and
• Advocate for health services research through its Coalition for Health Services Research.

Academy Health also serves as a national program office, grantee or contractor for a select group of foundation and government agency programs that strengthen the field of health services research, stimulate demand for research among policymakers and practitioners and improve the supply of research to address health policy challenges.
