When most of us think of New York state, the Big Apple comes to mind. However, Larchmont, Jewett, DeWitt, Onondaga, Babylon, Yonkers, New Castle, and West Carthage are making a name for themselves. A total of 34 New York communities are standing up against climate change by pledging to make their municipal operations and their communities Climate Smart. By beginning emission reduction steps even before the inventory is complete, many communities are saving taxpayer dollars and getting a head start on climate protection. For the long run, however, Climate Smart Communities are developing Local Action Plans that map out the way to achieving their climate goals.
