I watched it a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Though I don't want to reduce the entire documentary to one of those evil agribusiness dcoumentaries--it kind of is.
I was also particularly happy when I heard that Obama was pushing for safer standards in the food industry..... and then slightly annoyed when I read this article in the WSJ documenting the reaction of "farmers" (aka :large industrial food companies that spend millions lobbying congress ) :
Food-Safety Bill Spurs Backlash

I was particularly perturbed by this line in the article:
" livestock and grain farmers don't want the Food and Drug Administration inspecting farms."

.....

Really?
So the FDA can't even inspect where our food comes from....?
The spread of bacteria like E-Coli and Salmonella start in the farms. Regulation should be at all levels of production and as a consumer, I think it's a necessity for consumers to be as informed as possible on where our food is coming from.
Am I the only one that finds this slightly ridiculous...?

Thank you for the update, our local dietetic association group went to see it in Berkeley and San Francisco.

Here is a GREAT blog from my favorite blogger about Food, Inc. This is one of my favorite blogs -she's a scientist at UCSF that is really into food.

http://summertomato.com/food-inc-shows-how-your-food-choices-can-ch...

here's a sample of what she wrote:

"Food is the cause of almost every modern disease, and is in the midst of creating some new ones.

Food is destroying the planet faster than anything in human history.

Food threatens our national security and the health of the global economy.

But food is not all doom and gloom, nor should it be. Real food is a celebration of life and brings people together. Real food is an art. Real food is health.

My personal favorite reason to eat the way I do is that real food tastes amazing, nothing like the processed junk most of us grew up eating.

When it comes down to it, real food makes my life better."
Thanks for pointing me to that blog Carol.
She really captures the central message of the documentary:" Food, Inc. offers more than just criticism, it also gives us a solution: vote with your fork."
and I agree--real food really does make life better--and I hope blogs ( like Darya's) and documentaries like Food inc. are helping educate people on what real food is, and where it's coming from.

I'm thinking of stealing a few of those recipes also--
so many things to cook in so little time.
She's got some great tips too.
Thanks again Carol!
